Case 4 History ---- The patient was a 67 year old man with back and posterior thigh pain. Imaging studies show a well-delineated, diffusely enhancing extramedullary intradural lesion at the L4-5 region. Operative procedure: Lumbar laminectomy and tumor resection. ---- 4A1,2 The tumor is composed of uniform-appearing round to polygonal cells with moderate amounts of eosinophilic cytoplasm. The tumor cells have a round to oval nucleus with salt and pepper chromatin pattern (“neuroendocrine”). Scattered throughout the tumor, multiple areas with perivascular pseudorosette-like morphology are appreciated. However, in the tumor periphery, the tumor has a somewhat nested architecture, where the tumor cells are surrounded by a fibrovascular stroma.
