5A0 Case 5 History
Case 5 History ---- The patient was a 17 month old boy who was evaluated for concerns of failure to thrive. At an outside facility he was diagnosed with a rhino/entero virus, but ultimately underwent intracranial imaging due to lethargy. Head CT and then MRI showed a large supratentorial mass, and he was transferred to SLCH for elevation of care. Additional imaging with a total spine MRI showed numerous, enhancing lesions of the cauda equina and conus. Intracranial angiogram noted diffuse vascular supply to the tumor. He underwent a right craniectomy and tumor debulking which was limited due to excessive bleeding. A diagnosis of Choroid plexus carcinoma, WHO grade 3 was made. A left VP shunt was placed and adjunctive treatment was begun.
