Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (NON-GLIAL NON-NEURONAL) | Germ Cell Neoplasm - Germinoma | 14A1 Germinoma, pineal (Case 14) H&E 3.jpg
Case 14 History ---- The patient was an 18 year old male with no past medical history. He presented two weeks prior to admission with headache and double vision. MRI showed a 2 cm. pineal tumor. Clinical diagnosis: Pineal tumor. Operative procedure: Biopsy. ---- 14A1,2 The neoplasm is composed of sheets of large, atypical cells with prominent nucleoli and abundant cytoplasm. The neoplasm is divided into lobules by fibrous septae that also contain a lymphocytic infiltrate. Scattered psammoma bodies and mitotic figures are identified. No additional neoplastic germ cell components are present in the biopsy, however, it should be cautioned that, although diagnostic, the biopsy material is very small compared to the size of the tumor and other unsampled areas may have had other germ cell tumor elements.
