2C2 PPTID (Case 2) NF 1.jpg
Immunoreactivity for neurofilaments show strong staining of individual rare cells. (NF IHC) ---- Not shown: Staining for desmin, muscle specific actin, and melan-A are negative. Staining for HMB45, performed on a section different from that used for melan-A reveal scattered positive cells. Neu-N staining reveals only rare positive nuclei. The Ki-67 proliferative index is moderate and estimated at approximately 5%. ---- Comment: PPTID correspond to WHO grade 2 to WHO grade 3 neoplasms, however, the criteria by which these grades are defined are somewhat unclear. Although there are scattered mitotic figures, and evidence of Homer Wright and Flexner Wintersteiner formation, the tumor cytology is somewhat bland.
