3B2-5 This is a papillary neoplasm composed of epithelial tumor cells situated on broad fibrovascular cores and, focally, in sheets. There is a florid arborizing pattern in the majority of the tumor. The tumor cells range from columnar epithelial cells with basally oriented nuclei and apically oriented, eosinophilic cytoplasm to dyscohesive sheets of cells with elevated nucleus/cytoplasm (N/C) ratios, hyperchromatic nuclei with indistinct nucleoli, and scant eosinophilic cytoplasm. Focal cells with intracytoplasmic, PAS reactive vacuoles are noted. The mitotic activity in the more solid, sheet like areas of tumor are increased to 16 mitoses in 10 high powered fields. There is no necrosis or microvascular proliferation. The tumor shows superficial invasion of the surrounding peripherally located fragments of otherwise gliotic brain.
