1B2-4 Sections of the resected pineal region mass show a high grade primitive CNS tumor. Tumor cells appear in markedly hypercellular sheets with scant cytoplasm, extensive nuclear molding and cell wrapping, abundant apoptotic debris, and brisk mitotic activity. Extensive tumor necrosis is accompanied by dystrophic microcalcifications. (H&E)
