2B2 Pineoblastoma (Case 2) H&E 20X 1
2B2-4 Hematoxylin and eosin stained sections show multiple fragments of a ‘small blue cell tumor.’ The tumor cells have pleomorphic nuclei, fine dense chromatin, conspicuous nucleoli, and generally scant amounts of eosinophilic cytoplasm. Some areas appear particularly ‘primitive,’ with greater atypia and nuclear molding/wrapping. Scattered Homer Wright pseudorosettes are appreciated. Mitotic figures are frequent and apoptotic forms are abundant. Small areas of tumor necrosis are seen. Scattered large calcifications are present, regionally. (H&E)
