8B1-3 Sections of the resected tumor from the pineal region show ill-defined vaguely nested cells separated by intervening areas of neuropil lacking nuclei. Cytologically, tumor cells are relatively monomorphic, with nuclei that contain fine, speckled chromatin and inconspicuous nucleoli. A few cells have enlarged pleomorphic nuclei. Mitotic activity is absent.
