23A1 PIT Basophil inv (Case 23) ACTH 4X.jpg
Case 23 History ---- [82yo female with a sellar mass. Operative procedure: Transsphenoidal resection of tumor.] ---- This neoplasm forms pseudopapillary and pseudorosette structures with moderate eosinophilic cytoplasm and round monotonous hyperchromatic nuclei. Nuclear atypia, mitoses, and necrosis are not seen. Immunohistochemistry shows tumor cells are negative for ACTH, LH, FSH and GH. A Ki67 stain shows a proliferation index of less than 1%. The morphology and immunophenotype is diagnostic for a pituitary adenoma with no identified hormonal content. ---- 23A1-3 Successively higher magnification of a non-neoplastic exceptional ACTH-immunoreactive basophil invasion of the neurohypophysis. (ACTH IHC)
