In this cell there are multiple sizes of neurosecretory granules, long processes of some cells appearing in the cytoplasm, prominent lipofuscin granules and collections of mitochondria. ---- Comment: Multiple subtypes of pituitary adenoma cells are encountered in this specimen which would be expected from the immunohistochemical stains. Neither Crooke’s change nor fibrous bodies were encountered which are surrogate mark for cellular subtypes of tumors. At the time this case was signed out the neuropathologist favored a 'silent adenoma, subtype III' variant of pituitary adenoma which are known to not necessarily be hormone silent.
