The dominant histological pattern ('adenoma', 8A1, arrowhead and all other undesignated fragments) consist of dense hypercellular sheets formed by generally small ovoid cells with high nuclear to cytoplasmic ratios, stippled chromatin and, often, conspicuous nucleoli. Within these sheets, the tumor cells show regional and intra-regional cytological differences. Some areas within the dominant pattern are populated predominantly by granular acidophils that rarely show pleomorphism, and often contain pale fibrous bodies.
