Case 1 History ---- The patient is a 55 year old man with a third ventricular tumor. Procedure: Craniotomy, stereotactic for transcallosal/transchoroidal resection, lumbar drain insertion and placement of external ventricular drains. ---- 1A1,2 Sections of the third ventricle tumor show a relatively well-circumscribed tumor, comprised of elongate, spindle cells arranged in a fascicular/storiform pattern with occasional whorls. The tumor cells show abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm and have oval to elongate nuclei with small nucleoli. A few mitoses are seen, 2/10HPF. Atypical features are not seen. There is no evidence of tumor necrosis. Interlacing sheaves of spindled elements lack pilocytic features. (H&E)
