10C1 MPNST (Case 10) H&E whole mount
10C1-3 This tumor is composed of a circumscribed tumor of atypical spindle cells with variable amounts of eosinophilic cytoplasm, arranged in sweeping and interdigitating fascicles. There is mild pleomorphism of the cellular elements. Scattered mitotic figures are present. Areas of tumor necrosis and microvascular proliferation are noted. There are compressed peripheral areas composed of spindled cells involving several fascicles consistent with a plexiform neurofibroma.
