Ultrastructural examination of the tumor shows frequent cells with prominent basement membranes. Neoplastic cells do not show focal desmosomes, melanosomes or dense core vesicles. ---- This case was sent in consultation to Dr. Bernd Scheithauer of Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota who thought this was a grade 3 malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor with spindle and epithelioid features.
