Case 12 History ---- The patient is a 28 year old man with neurofibromatosis type 1 who presented with an enlarging painful mass in the left thigh. Workup imaging showed a large heterogenous mass centered on the distal sciatic nerve that had increased FDG uptake. This raised concern for malignancy and a biopsy of the mass was performed in June 2013 which rendered a diagnosis of atypical peripheral nerve sheath neoplasm. Operative procedure: Resection of peripheral nerve sheath neoplasm from left thigh. ---- 12A1-3 MRI studies ---- 12A1 This STIR scan shows the tumor mass and adjacent plexiform neurofibroma.
