13A1 MPNST (Case 13) 1
Case13 History ---- The patient is a 65 year old female with more than one year history of progressive numbness and weakness of her right foot and ankle. Operative procedure and findings: Right peroneal nerve exploration. Clinical diagnosis: Peripheral nerve sheath tumor. 13A1-5 The tumor involves several nerve fascicles with extension into the epineurium and soft tissue which is very close to the lateral peripheral margin. The tumor is markedly cellular and composed of hyperchromatic oval-to-elongated, slightly pleomorphic nucleated cells with scanty cytoplasm. Scattered mitotic figures are also seen. The epineurium also displays scattered perivascular lymphocytic infiltrate and few foreign body giant cells. The current tumor is similar in morphology to the previous specimen.
