Case 2 History ---- The patient is a 36 year old woman who is status post irradiation ten years prior for Hodgkin's disease, who now has a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor in the left cervical region. The tumor is reported to be extramedullary, intradural, and extends into the brachial plexus. The surgical procedure was completed in two stages over the course of a week. Operative procedure: Excision. 2A1-3 Histologic sections show a hypercellular spindle cell neoplasm growing within multiple nerve fascicles, completely or partially replacing the endoneurium in some but not all fascicles. Cytologically, the nuclei have pointed ends, vesicular chromatin, and indistinct nucleoli.
