Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS - CRANIAL AND PARASPINAL NERVEs | Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor (MPNST) | 4D MPNST (Case 4) Ki67
Reactivity for proliferation marker Ki67 (MIB-1 antibody) stains approximately 30-40% of tumor cell nuclei with moderate to strong intensity. (Ki67 IHC) ---- Not shown: Epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) is nonreactive. Reactivity for p53 stains rare tumor cell nuclei with moderate to strong intensity, estimated to be ~5% overall. As part of this evaluation, slides from patient's prior “C1-2 tumor” resection were also reviewed. On comparison, the prior tumor had less cellularity, less crowding, atypia, and fewer mitoses, in keeping with the stated diagnosis of “atypical neurofibroma.” The current tumor is higher grade and shows histomorphological and immunophenotypic features that are consistent with a diagnosis of high grade malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor.
