Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS - CRANIAL AND PARASPINAL NERVEs | Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor (MPNST) | 9B1 MPNST (Case 9) H&E WM
9B1-3 Sections show a partially circumscribed tumor of atypical spindle cells with variable amounts of eosinophilic cytoplasm, arranged in sweeping fascicles embedded in a myxoid matrix with focal whorling. Nuclear pleomorphism is evident among scattered typical and atypical mitotic figures (mitotic index of 7/10HPF). There are large areas of tumor necrosis. The sections of the adjacent nerve fragment show numerous nerve fascicles with features of a plexiform neurofibroma.
