Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS - CRANIAL AND PARASPINAL NERVEs | Neurofibroma | 12A1 Neurofibroma, plexiform (Case 12) H&E whole mount
Case 12 History ---- The patient is a 16 year old girl with neurofibromatosis type I with large left occipital scalp mass with calvarial erosion. Operative procedure: Excision of left posterior scalp mass. ---- 12A1-3 Sections of the scalp mass show a multinodular (relatively paucicellular) myxoid neoplasm involving multiple nerve fascicles consistent with a plexiform neurofibroma. The background shows a diffuse neurofibroma, numerous mast cells and prominent tactile-like structures (pseudo- Meissner corpuscles). Mitoses are inconspicuous.
