2D2 Neurofibroma (Case 2) NF 2
Neurofilament labeled axons are demonstrated within the body of the tumor. (NF IHC) ---- Not shown: Immunohistochemical staining for collagen IV shows immunoreactivity surrounding many Schwann cells and within non-neoplastic vascular basement membranes. MIB-1(Ki-67) proliferative index is low. Based on histomorphological features and immunostaining profile, this lesion is most consistent with a neurofibroma, WHO grade I. The presence of a neurofibroma in such a young patient suggests that he should be evaluated for the possibility of neurofibromatosis.
