Case 7 History ---- The patient is a 55-year-old man who initially presented at 28 years of age with peripheral neurofibromas. The patient has had neurofibromas resected from the left and right ankles in 1987, 1996, and 2001, and recently underwent punch biopsy of a neurofibroma on the left chest. Per report, MR imaging most recently performed at an outside institution and interpreted at St. Louis Children's Hospital showed numerous bilateral T2 hyperintense, T1 hypointense masses demonstrating minimal enhancement, arising at each neural foramina level from C1-C2 to the upper T4 thoracic levels. Additionally, there are bilateral extramedullary, intradural masses from C3-4 to C6-7, causing marked cord deformity and compression. The patient has complained of a tender left neck mass for many years causing increasing intermittent pain and sensory loss in the left hand. Operative procedure: Resection of intradural, extramedullary nerve sheath tumors at C3-4 (left and right sides), C4-5, and C6-7. ---- 7A Multiple masses are seen in the intra- and extradural spaces.
