4E1,2 One micron-thick, toluidine blue stained sections of the plastic embedded right sciatic nerve biopsy show collagenized intercellular matrix and frequent pseudo-onion bulbs. The axons are present at relatively lower density than normal nerves. Axons within pseudo-onion bulbs often show thinner myelin than expected for axon caliber. Plastic sections show solid areas with compelling pseudo-onion bulbs which differ from true Schwann cells by their coarser processes and cellularity as well as immunosignatures.
