5C1-3 One micron plastic sections of left sural nerve show increased connective tissue encircling individual fascicles. The endoneurial constituents of the 2-4 fascicles are expanded by a proliferation of cellular processes resulting in an intrafascicular septation with formation of micro-fascicles. The number of large and small myelinated axons is significantly decreased but both populations are present. The myelin around residual axons is thin.
