17B1,2 The tumor is biphasic with interspersed hypercellular (Antoni A) and hypocellular (Antoni B) areas. Tumor cell nuclei are generally elongate oval with rounded ends and finely speckled chromatin. Nuclear palisades, consistent with imperfect Verocay bodies, are observed in many areas. Blood vessels are often thickened and hyalinized, and accompanied by modest collections of benign lymphocytes. No definitive necrosis or hemorrhage is identified. Mitotic figures are rare.
