Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS - CRANIAL AND PARASPINAL NERVEs | Schwannoma | 3C2 Schwannoma (Case 3) H&E 4X
3C2-5 H&E stained sections show an encapsulated, benign lesion that is peripherally associated with a single nerve. The mass is composed of dense areas formed by benign spindle cells arranged in fascicles and whorled nodules (Antoni A areas) with palisades of nuclear-rich and nuclear-free zones (Verocay bodies), as well as hypocellular, edematous/myxoid areas with cystic changes (Antoni B). Blood vessels within the tumor show mural thickening and hyalinization.
