4A1 (Schwannoma, cellular (Case 4) H&E 10X 4
Case 4 History ---- The patient is a 47 year old man with a schwannoma of the sacrum. Operative procedure: Excision. ---- 4A1-3 Sections of the specimen show a low grade spindle cell neoplasm with a thick fibrous capsule. The tumor cells have oval to slender elongated nuclei and elongated cytoplasm with indistinct borders, and are arranged in intersecting bundles. Extensive fibrosis renders the neoplastic component vaguely nodular. No definitive Verocay bodies or loose Antoni B regions are identified. Mitotic activity is low.
