Immunohistochemical stains show that the spindle cells are strongly and diffusely positive for S100 protein (S100 IHC). ---- Not shown: the tumor cells exhibit patchy positivity for collagen IV. They are negative for neurofilament which highlights the nerve twigs at the periphery of the lesion.
