The cells have elongated, bland nuclei and the background is myxoid/fibrotic. Bundles of root axons are splayed over the edges of these neoplasms and do not have large numbers of axons intercalated between Schwann cell processes as more typical for neurofibroma. There are no areas of dense cellularity, atypia, increased numbers of mitoses or necrosis.
