Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS - CRANIAL AND PARASPINAL NERVEs | Schwannoma - Plexiform | 2E3 (Case 2) B1 EMA 20X
EMA stains the perineuria of fascicles but does not stain individual tumor cells. It does demonstrate the multiple fascicle involvement of the plexiform tumor. ---- Comment: Although many of the tumors have loose spindled areas resembling neurofibromas, the immunoprofiles are those of schwannomas/plexiform schwannoma(s). Chart review showed the patient had no known history of a genetic syndrome or vestibular schwannomas. Nonetheless, the presence of multiple/bilateral nerve root schwannomas in a patient who has no other diagnostic neurofibromatosis type 2-associated features including vestibular schwannoma, germline NF2 mutation or first-degree relative with NF2, raises the possibility of schwannomatosis
