2A2 Hemorrhage (Case 2) 8
A coronal section shows an acute hemorrhage (6.5 x 6.5 x 4 cm) centered on the right basal ganglia with extension into the lateral ventricles. The hemorrhage extends from the level of anterior basal ganglia to the anterior edge of the thalamus with lateral extension into the putamen and appears to have ruptured medially into the lateral ventricles. From there, the hemorrhage has extended throughout the ventricular system, through the foramina of Magendie and Luschka and into the region of the cisterna magnum. The right cingulate shows subfalcine herniation.
