2CHemorrhage (Case 2) MPO 60X marrow MPX
The tumor cells in the marrow stain strongly for myeloperoxidase. (MPX IHC) ---- Neuro Diagnosis Comment: The cause of death in this case was central and tonsillar herniation secondary to a massive hemorrhage in right basal ganglia due to marked thrombocytopenia in the context of acute myelogenous leukemia. However, are these true leukemic nodules in the brainstem which have been present prior to her terminal course or do the hemorrhages represent Duret brainstem compression hemorrhages reflecting high circulating blast counts in the blood?
