Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (HEMATOLYMPHOID) | Granulocytic Sarcoma | 3C2 Leukemic Nodules (Case 3) Leder 40X
Many leukemic nodules contain a subpopulation of Leder positive myeloblasts, (Leder stain) ---- Not shown: A granulocytic sarcoma (chloroma) was discovered within the substance of the tongue. ---- Comment: Microscopic examination of all sections of the cerebral cortex and underlying white matter revealed profound leukocytosis; specifically, capillaries and small vessels were engorged with myeloid blast cells, with few admixed red cells. Virchow-Robin spaces occasionally contained myeloblasts; however, meninges were essentially normal in appearance, although focal subarachnoid hemorrhage was present.
