There is bilaterally symmetrical cerebral edema causing flattening of the gyri and narrowing of the sulci over both hemispheres. Cross sections of the bilateral cerebral hemispheres disclose multiple well circumscribed areas of hemorrhage, many at the cortical gray/white junction. These measure from approximately 1 mm to 2 cms in diameter. In some cases, the central portion of the hemorrhage appears to be made up of a pale appearing substance.
