The marked Ki67 proliferative index is not uncommon. Mitotic figures among the histiocytic cells are frequent, estimated at six per ten high power (40X objective) fields, and immunohistochemically stained sections show nuclear reactivity with variable intensity and variable frequency for proliferation marker Ki67 (MIB-1 antibody) in up to 36% of the histiocytic cells. However, mitotic frequency and proliferation index do not correlate with the local behavior or prognosis associated with this entity.
