1A0 Case 1 History
Case 1 History ---- The patient was a 53 year old woman with a history of multiple episodes of headache, agitation, and confusion in the absence of MRI abnormalities. Due to persistent headaches and acute deterioration, a head CT was performed, demonstrating a right frontal intra-parenchymal hemorrhage and prompting transfer to BJH Neuro ICU. Her hospital course prior to expiration was significant for increased agitation and paranoia at nighttime. On 7/31 she was tachycardic (HR 160s) and became unresponsive. A stat head CT showed a new right occipital hemorrhage and concern for venous sinus thrombosis which was established by MRI/MRV. She lost all brainstem reflexes and had no motor response in any of the 4 extremities. Apnea testing confirmed brain death and she was removed from the ventilator. ---- At the time of autopsy her unfixed brain weighed 1220g.
