Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (HEMATOLYMPHOID) | Lymphoma, primary | 7A1 Lymphoma (2-3 day steroid Rx, Case 7) 9
7A1-3 Histological sections of the posterior fossa tumor biopsy material show large, dyscohesive tumor cells with prominent nucleoli and pleomorphic nuclei, densely arranged in sheets and perivascular aggregates. Mitotic figures, some atypical, are abundant. Apoptosis is extensive, thought related to the prior treatment with steroids 2-3 days before biopsy. In steroid-induced apoptosis, CNS-DLBCL may vanish rapidly and apoptotic debris may be abundant with numerous foamy macrophages.
