At autopsy the weight of the unfixed brain was 1280 gm. The leptomeninges are smooth, glistening and transparent. The cerebellar hemispheres are full and equal in size. A 3 x 2 cm ulcer-like defect with grey-brown edges is present over the central posterior ridge of the right cerebellar hemisphere, consistent with the patient's cerebellar biopsy site. The cerebellar tonsils are unremarkable, showing no evidence of tonsillar herniation. ---- 7C1,2 Coronal sections of the cerebral hemispheres show a normal cortical ribbon with sharp demarcation from the underlying, generally unremarkable white matter. The splenium of the corpus callosum shows a central horizontal band of tan-orange discoloration.
