Axial sections of the brainstem demonstrate a soft infiltrative lesion effacing the pontine nuclei and white matter tracts 1.8 cm in greatest dimension. The lesion expands to discolor the cerebral peduncles in the midbrain and extends to the pontomedullary junction.
