Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (HEMATOLYMPHOID) | Plasmacytoma | 12B1 Plasma cell neoplasm (Case 12) H&E 4.jpg
12B1,2 The tumor consists of sheets of cells with low nuclear:cytoplasmic ratio, and eccentrically placed nuclei that have a "clock face" chromatin pattern; morphologically consistent with plasma cells. Most assume a typical morphology, however, there are also more atypical forms including cells with binucleation and prominent nucleoli with occasional Dutcher bodies and numerous apoptotic bodies. Atypical features include focal nuclear enlargement, irregular nuclear contours, prominent cherry red macronucleoli and multinucleation. Mitotic activity is common.
