Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (HEMATOLYMPHOID) | Plasmacytoma | 15A1 Myeloid sarcoma (looks like plasmacytoma) (Case 15) H&E 3
Case 15 History ---- The patient is a 73-year-old man with rapid onset of myelopathy. MRI demonstrated a ventral epidural enhancing mass at T8-T10. In addition, he was found to be thrombocytopenic with a low platelet count. Operative procedure: Lumbar decompression/laminectomy/spinal cord tumor resection. ---- 15A1-3 Sections show sheets of intermediate to large cells with modest amounts of granular eosinophilic cytoplasm and eccentrically-located, immature appearing nuclei. Few mature granulocytes including band and segmented neutrophils are present. Frequent mitotic figures and scattered karyorrhectic debris are seen. Lymphocytes are scarce. Tumor cells mimic plasma cells at low magnification but have significantly more granular cytoplasm.
