9B1 Plasma Cell Neoplasm (Case 9) H&E 1
9B1-3 Sections of the perispinal mass show neoplastic cells with a plasmacytoid appearance that have infiltrated soft tissue, mature adipose tissue and a dorsal root ganglion, and also appear within an adjacent lymph node. Many of the neoplastic cells have eccentrically placed nuclei with chunky, speckled 'clockwork' chromatin, and moderately abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm with a relatively lucent para-nuclear 'hof.' Binucleate cells are present as are cells with apoptotic nuclei. Many of the neoplastic cells have atypical features, including increased cell size, increased nucleus-to-cytoplasm ratio, prominent nucleoli, and irregularly shaped nuclei. Occasional mitotic figures are present.
