Case 20 History ---- A 63-year-old man presented with headaches, frequent falls, and slurred speech. Imaging studies revealed a right frontal, dura-based mass with associated skull involvement which was gross-totally resected via a bifrontal craniotomy followed by the placement of a titanium mesh reconstruction plate, and external beam radiation therapy. Two years later, numbness of the right hand along was accompanied by an enlarging periorbital and scalp mass which involved the reconstruction plate and involving the right orbital roof. A second large, but subtotal resection was undertaken but the tumor progressed and the patient died 9 months thereafter, 2 years after the first surgery. (This case is case 1 in the publication Patil et al. PMID: 21558975) ---- 20A CT scan of the patient prior to the second surgery shows a complex relationship between recurrent tumor and prior surgical process.
