In this particular case, the tumor cells show evidence of deletions involving 22q, 1p, and 14q. Additionally, there are chromosome 9 deletions, including homozygous deletions of the p16 region. ---- Comment: The morphologic, immunohistochemical and genetic features are consistent with the diagnosis of anaplastic meningioma, WHO grade III. Additionally, the loss of the p16 region has been associated with a more aggressive subset of anaplastic meningiomas. Lastly, the association of this neoplasm with a pre-existing arachnoid cyst is intriguing. This has never been reported previously. It suggests possible malignant transformation of the meningothelial lining of the cyst.
