9B1 Meningioma, Anaplastic (Case 9) H&E 2
9B1-3 The tumor has a spindled to epithelioid architecture with focal calcifications and rare whorl formation. A large portion of this neoplasm is sheeted with increased cellularity, and there are focal areas that are rhabdoid in appearance. Areas of frank anaplasia are also seen with both carcinoma-like and sarcoma-like cytologic features. There is also a focus of chondromyxoid metaplasia. Perivascular lymphocytic cuffing is also seen. The cytology is significant for prominent eosinophilic nucleoli. Mitotic figures are prevalent and the mitotic index reaches 20 mitoses/10HPF in multiple areas.
