15D3 Meningioma, Angiomatous & Xanthomatous (Case 15) CD163 4
There were scattered CD163 positive cells, consistent with a small infiltrate of macrophages. Other foamy cells are xanthomatous meningioma cells. ---- Ancillary studies (not shown):.A stain for inhibin was negative. The Ki-67 labeling index was less than 1%. Strong nuclear immunoreactivity for progesterone receptor is seen in a subset of tumor cells. ---- Comment: The morphologic and immunohistochemical features are consistent with the diagnosis of meningioma, angiomatous and xanthomatous (metaplastic variants, WHO grade I). Although there is abundant nuclear atypia, the scattered bizarre nuclei appear to be most likely degenerative in nature, given the lack of appreciable mitotic activity to go with it.
