Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (MENINGIOMA) | Angiomatous | 7G2 Meningioma, atypical, WHO II, sclerotic & angiomatous (Case 7) CD68 2
CD68 highlights abundant scattered giant cells; many of these contain cholesterol clefts. ---- Ancillary data (not shown): CD34 and smooth muscle actin highlights endothelial cells and smooth muscles of vessel wall, many of which are hyalinized. Reactivity for proliferation marker Ki-67 (MIB-1 antibody) is seen in a regionally variable proportion of tumor cell nuclei, ranging focally up to 6.25%. ---- Comment: Based on the presence of focally increased mitotic activity (4/10 hpf), this meningioma is classified as an atypical meningioma (WHO grade II). These histomorphological and immunohistochemical studies further highlights a sclerotic/angiomatous variant of this meningioma.
