Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (MENINGIOMA) | Brain Invasion | 16A1 Meningioma, Grade II Brain invasion (Case 16) H&E 4X 2
Case 16 History ---- The patient was a 37-year-old woman with neurofibromatosis type 2 who has had surgery for multiple meningiomas and schwannomas of the brain and spine. She has a large parieto-occipital dural-based lesion that has grown considerably in size. Operative procedure: Left parietal craniotomy, Stealth frameless stereotaxy, microsurgical dissection, and resection of tumor. ---- 16A1-3 This is a meningothelial neoplasm arranged in whorls and fascicles. In some areas the amount of collagen is surprising meriting a description as a sclerosing meningioma. Mitotic activity is increased (at least 7/10HPF). Sheeting architecture, small cell change, and hypercellularity are focally present, but there is no spontaneous necrosis or macronucleoli. Brain invasion is seen in multiple regions.
