Washington University Experience | NEOPLASMS (MENINGIOMA) | Chordoid | 12B1 Meningioma, chordoid (Case 12) H&E 3
12B1,2 Sections show a vaguely lobulated moderately cellular tumor composed of cords of small eosinophilic, often vacuolated epithelioid cells, set within an abundant matrix of basophilic mucin. The chordoma-like areas are mixed with foci of more classic meningioma, the latter showing the typical whorls of large epithelioid to spindled cells. Focal areas show hypercellularity with sheeting and macronucleoli. Mitotic figures are present, focally reaching 4 mitosis/10HPF. There is a focal area of tumor necrosis.
