27A1 Meningioma (Case 27) 18
Case 27 History ---- The patient was an 89 year old man with memory issues and a family history of dementias. At autopsy he had pathologic findings of diffuse Lewy body disease (dementia with Lewy bodies) with a minor contribution from Alzheimer's disease. ---- 27A1,2 A dural spinal cord mass populated by spindled cells arranged in fascicles and whorls. The cells have a moderate amount of eosinophilic cytoplasm, oval-to-spindled nuclei, speckled chromatin, distinct nuclear envelopes and occasional intranuclear pseudoinclusions. Mitotic figures are rare (<1/10HPF). Scattered psammoma bodies are present. There is no evidence of loss of architecture (‘sheeting’), ‘small cell change,’ necrosis, or invasion of CNS tissue. ---- This histological pattern is that of a meningioma, WHO grade I.
